Best companion… #1(books of March so far)

by Mahmoud on Mar.22, 2010, under Uncategorized

As it is said in Arabic sayings and in a Poem by Al-Mutanabbi that a book is the best companion.
-p.s. I don’t know if there are other sayings like that with the same idea but in a different language, although I suppose so!-

I’m reading two type of works now and so far from the beginning of this month: mathematical related books specially about mathematical logic and algorithms and the second is fiction. mostly Stephen King’s! and I’ll write about “steve” later for those who think I’m obsessed about him and his work… of which there may be some truth, but that’s for later!

I’m sharing this info with whom might read these lines and maybe try to pick up on of these titles! but mostly it is for my self as a documentation of my progress… it is not to show off, after all it is worthless to show off about reading because it is not as nearly as good or interesting as writing.

starting with the fiction (I’ll write few words about each book):

finished:

1.

Duma Key by Stephen king

amazing work by Stephen King. I really enjoyed it and I even read this book more than once the last was in this month (read from page 1 to the last).
I bought this book as soon as it arrived to Jordan (the same week it was released to the markets). I read the first three pages of the hardcover and decided that I already was rewarded with more than what this book was priced for. the same experience with my first King’s work to read by me (Dark tower 1: the gunslinger). I loved this book from the “how to draw a picture I” page.

I really enjoyed the work. and in my opinion I would say about the work:
unpredictable events and story-knots.
great depth for all the main characters.
amazing combination of relations and events.
the storytelling rhythm is almost magical.
and the writing style is special and strong.

2.

Rage by Stephen King

interesting. I enjoyed reading the book.
I have some personal thoughts about the main ideas in the story… and I don’t appreciate such path or direction as the one lead by the events and the main characters… but it is my personal opinion.

I think it is a dark and violent artwork.
and it is a sad thing that a kid was inspired by this story to commit a similar crime as the one in the story (or the ones!) but again this kid in the story although fictional but scary and dangerous!
by the way this book is banned!

3.

Salems' lot by Stephen King

scary and fast-paced. good read. although I’m board of vampires right now!

I like the storytelling style… grabbing!

and it is not a very thick/big book compared to others of Stephan’s!

4.

UR

UR by Stephen King

easy to read. and fast to read too!
although it has this marketing purpose for Amazon and some products are advertised between the lines of the book or even boldly with the almost the price tags (actually in one place of the story it is true… he tells the actually price of the product from Amazon). but it didn’t annoy me… and it was kind of interesting.

the main idea is unbelievably beautiful… I wish if I can read unpublished works by my favorite authors… specially those Poe’s novels he mentioned :D very neat idea.

to be continued soon!
